Tucked away in her office in KX202, Amanda Connolly plays an essential role in the everyday happenings of the Humber Students’ Federation. Connolly is HSF’s VP of Administration for North Campus. Elected in March 2008, Connolly has made the most of her opportunity. As VP of Administration, Connolly has many responsibilities. Her job is directly related to all the services that HSF provides. These services include the HSF Food Program, Health and Dental plans, and the new dental clinic.

Day in the life: Alicia Johnson

Eggs Benedict served with hollandaise sauce and bacon is the ideal start to a busy work day for HSF’s Vice President of Administration, Alicia Johnson. After that, she’s all ears for Humber College students who are her primary concern. “I like dealing with students,” Johnson said. “It gives you a clear picture of why things are done a certain way.” For most of her day, Johnson can be found helping students in the office at the Lakeshore campus. She handles a lot of student inquiries and offers any help she can give. Listening to students’ concerns, such as problems with professors or courses, is also regularly on her agenda.

Games Room gives students a break

For students looking to take a break from their studies, the Humber Students’ Federations’ Games Room may be the spot they’ve been looking for. Equipped with several pool and foosball tables, the HSF Games Room is the perfect place for a group of students to visit between classes. “There should always be a place on campus where students can meet, kick back and relax,” HSF Service Director, Sieu Moi Ly, said. Judging by student opinion, the HSF Games Room is doing just that.

HSF welcomes students with free lunch

On Wed. Jan 8, the Humber Students’ Federation welcomed new students beginning their courses in the winter 09 semester at Humber ITAL. In a collaborative effort with several other departments in the school, students were treated to tours at both Humber’s North and Lakeshore campuses, while being served popcorn, cotton candy, drinks and pizza in the North campus Student Center and ______ at Lakeshore campus. Alongside the activities and free food, new students were also presented the opportunity to learn more about what HSF and Humber have to offer, by speaking with HSF president Mike Berg. “A lot of students might have just finished high school and wanted to take a semester off before coming to college, so we wanted to welcome them to the school,” Berg said. “It’s a little token of our appreciation for them coming out to Humber.”

Get involved with HSF elections

The Humber Student Federation election process has begun with the nomination period now open at both North and Lakeshore campuses. It will continue to be open until Feb. 6. All program representative and executive positions are available. Interested students are to pick up their nomination packages at the HSF offices in room kx202. Inside each package students will find the nomination forms, a calendar of important dates, information about each available position, their signature page, and other essential information to guide them through the election process. “If you want to advocate on behalf of your students the HSF is a perfect way to do so,” HSF President, Mike Berg said.
