Students test election candidates during open forum
March 5, 2009

by Meagan Thibeault
Intense cross-examination and insightful student inquiries were well-handled by Humber ITAL’s North campus’s election candidates yesterday afternoon. The event, called the All Candidates Forum, gave students the opportunity to ask questions to their Humber Students’ Federation election candidates.
A broad variety of issues were brought forward by both student audience members and pre-arranged student video questions. Candidates running for Vice President of Campus Life were obliged to explain their plans for improving clubs, facilities, and communication between students and HSF executives.

Students bring illScarlett to Humber
March 5, 2009

by Mark Millard
The students voted, and they were anything but disappointed with their decision.
On Wednesday Feb. 25, hundreds of students anxiously waited in a line only seen as large on Halloween pub night, to watch Mississauga’s illScarlett take the stage at CAPS Pub.
In an event organized by the Humber Students’ Federation, students were given the opportunity to vote on which band they wanted to see on the evening of the 25th. Defeating The Stills, Dragonette and Jully Black, the Juno-nominated act was set to take the stage for a second time at Humber ITAL in just under two years.
“We won something. I think that’s the first time we ever won anything,” lead singer and guitarist Alex Norman said, accompanied by laughter from his band mates. “We’re privileged and it’s an honour, and just being nominated in the same breath as The Stills and Jully Black is amazing.”

Words of wisdom during election time
March 5, 2009

by Meagan Thibeault
Wisdom does not necessarily come with age but it does come with experience, which is why former Humber Students’ Federation President, Nick Farnell, is one of the wisest when it comes to important leaderships roles.
His experiences working as HSF President during Humber ITAL’s 2007-2008 school year taught him that learning doesn’t stop at the classroom.

Will Strickland “edutains” Humber
March 5, 2009

by Thomas Hurst
On Monday, Feb. 23 at Humber ITAL’s North campus, and Tuesday, Feb 24 at the Lakeshore campus, Will Strickland brought his ‘Edutainment’ presentation to Humber students as he spoke to them about the importance of black history and its culture. He also gave advice on how they can be successful.
“He’s had so much experience in the world, through his work with hip-hop and black culture,” Humber Students’ Federation Programming Director, Aaron Miller said. “He’s seen and been through a lot to create a perspective that a lot of students gravitate to.”
