Don’t let the news burst your bubble
March 5, 2009

by Meagan Thibeault
I have a confession to make.
I listened when my elders warned me about studying hard to land a job that would guarantee my eternal happiness. I was absolutely positive that I possessed a passion for current events, world issues, and of course, the written word. So here I am, finishing my third year of a journalism course, practicing writing and producing news media day in and day out; but to be honest, most of the time the news makes me sad.
Nevertheless, I can’t ignore the inkling that I am not alone. Tune into any news station or crack open any newspaper and you’ll start to see what I mean. Violence, murders, car accidents, weapons, drugs, natural disasters; the list is exhaustive. The abundance of bad news that attacks ours senses from a wide variety of media garrisons can be rather intimidating.

Status Update: I Don't Care
March 5, 2009

by Corey Johnson
Remember MySpace? That was the website where social networking was born. It wasn’t flashy and didn’t have “applications”, but it did what I wanted it to do.
I could post pictures and talk to my friends, making it almost like an answering machine for MSN messenger. If I didn’t want to see someone’s pictures, MySpace wouldn’t show me them. If I didn’t want to read about someone’s life, I didn’t have to.

Tragedy should have been avoided
March 5, 2009

by Thomas Hurst
Most individuals feel there is nobody better at driving than themselves. It’s a topic so mundane it’s shrugged off by participants at all experience levels. But when it comes to driving, pardon the cliché, it’s much better to be safe than sorry.
Last week a seven-year-old child was killed in Alberta when a vehicle failed to stop for a school bus. Police claim the school bus was picking up the child and was stopped with the stop sign out and the lights flashing. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and struck the child as he was crossing the street, sending both the vehicle and the child into the ditch.

PETA wongs vegetarians
March 5, 2009

by Mark Millard
Many of us know a vegetarian who always needs to preach. That individual who needs to send all their friend’s information about the benefits of vegetarianism, along with disgusting videos documenting animal slaughter farms and other forms of animal cruelty. Most of these people are influenced by an organization known as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, using their mediums and methods to spread the aforementioned information and imagery.
