Melody Cheung does it just for the kick and fun

Melody Cheung, a first year Paramedic student at Humber ITAL, is an avid soccer player from Richmond Hill. Unlike most athletes showcased in Humber Life’s Athletic Profile column, Cheung only started playing soccer at the age of 16. “My dad thought it would be a good idea for me to get involved in a sport—and I’m glad I took his advice,” she said.

The fall of the Blue Jays

Last April in this column I told you about the great start to the season the Blue Jays were having. At one point during the summer, the Jays were 20 games above .500. At the end of April, Adam Lind and Aaron Hill were among the league’s best hitters, while Roy Halladay seemed like a sure-bet to win the Cy Young award, which is given to the league’s best pitcher. Scott Rolen was batting well over .350, and even players who were not known as power hitters, such as Marco Scutaro and Rod Barajas, were hitting balls out of the park.

Hawks give back to their fans

The Humber Hawks are taking the intiative to give back to the fans and encourage others to get involved. The Hawk Flock is a fan-based program featuring giveaways and a total in-game sports entertainment package. Students can register for free to become a part of the Hawk Flock at the athletics centre. In doing so they will automatically receive a Humber Hawks scarf.
