The Humber Tropics Frosh Week concert series closed off with a splash last week at the first time ever amphitheatre hot tub party.

While a crowd of students packed in front of the stage awaiting DJ Girl Talk to perform, a few brave students took a dip in one of the five rental hot tubs looking out over the amphitheatre.

The hot tub/concert combo, organized by the Humber Students’ Federation, had over 500 in attendance.

“I didn’t know Frosh would be like this,” Victor Jagsz, a first-year Business Management student at Lakeshore said. “No other school has this kind of Frosh.”

Jagsz, showing off the words “Hot Tub King” written on his chest, said he planned to stay in the hot tub for the entire night.

“I wanted to come here and meet everybody because I’m a new student at Humber,” Jagsz added.

Jen Meabel, a first-year Journalism student at Humber North, said this event was her favourite of all the Frosh Week events she attended.

“You get to meet people outside of your program,” Meabel said. “It’s networking; expanding your Facebook list.”

First-year Fitness and Health Promotions student at North, Jennifer Macleod, agreed that the event was a great opportunity for meeting new people.

“I wanted to see what kind of guys we had at our school,” she joked.

Macleod also said compared to other Frosh events, this one seemed to have a great turnout.

Gregg Gillis, aka Girl Talk, even left the stage at one point to take a dip with the students in the hot tubs.

Jessica Petkoff, a first-year Fashion Arts student at North, said hanging out in the hot tub was worth it despite the chilly temperatures that night.

“It’s a chance to socialize and meet people outside of rez,” Petkoff said. “But I’m also having a lot of fun with my friends.”

Amy Tound, a first-year Media student at the University of Guelph-Humber, said having the hot tubs with the concert in the background was an added bonus.

“I like Girl Talk and the hot tubs sounded fun,” she said.

Tound also said it was fun to get out mid-week.

“It was an excuse to go out and have fun on a Wednesday,” she said.

When asked if she had anything more to say about the event, Tound couldn’t complain.

“Hot tubs are awesome; this whole event is awesome,” she said.
