The Humber Tropics Frosh Week continued on Thursday Sept. 4, with a beach themed party in the Humber Students’ Federation Amphitheatre at North campus and at the H Cafeteria at Lakeshore campus.

Students who attended the lunch-hour event were treated to free virgin tropical drinks and candy kabobs, while getting a chance to meet other students.

“This event was a good way to learn about HSF and meet some new people,” first-year Culinary Management student Cory Pezzack said.

The tropical drinks were a hit, with students lining up to get them throughout the entire event.   The tropical drinks were made using various fruits including kiwis, oranges and grapefruits.

“These drinks are great on a day like today,” third year Media Studies student Daniel Ponzini said.  “Sitting in class all morning, it’s nice to take a break and enjoy all the free stuff being offered.”

Aside from the free food and drink, 250 students received a free HSF lip balm/gloss, simply for attending the event.

Keeping with the beach theme, Humber students were also able to jump onto a beach volleyball court and show off their skills.  This proved to be one of the event’s most popular attractions.

“The volleyball was a big success,” HSF’s Volleyball Coordinator Marlon Peters said. “People were really getting into it, setting up plays and even diving for balls.”

The HSF also had special guest sand sculptor Wayne Stirling at the event, showing off his skills for all to see.

Stirling constructed a giant sand castle using five tons of pond sand.   He completed what he said was usually a three-day project, in just ten hours.
